Dick joined Norm Bloom & Son in June of 2015 as their water quality expert. He has a BS degree in English Literature from Middlebury College ’61 and an MS degree from Stony Brook University ’78. Dick served his country as Company Commander, 564th Ordnance Company, Ft. Riley 1962-1964 and went on to work at Shell Oil and Shell Chemical Companies for 27 as a District Manager. In 1992 he retired from Shell to start a citizen’s water quality monitoring group at Earthplace in Westport, CT called “Harbor Watch”.
Using volunteers and a limited staff he established, marine, environmental program for high school students and an effective program for monitoring shoreline pollution. Dick was able to gain the trust and support of local municipal departments in Norwalk, Wilton and Ridgefield to affect many repairs to the aging infrastructure during his time with the Harbor Watch. He retired from Earthplace in December 2014 and is currently involved with day-to-day water quality control tests here at Norm Bloom and Son. In his spare time, Dick enjoys building miniature models, fishing and spending time in the countryside of Vermont.
